This painting was inspired by a trip I took to Moab, UT last March. I loved the weird carvings on the cliff side -- I believe they are natural but they looked almost like a petroglyph to me. Nature's petroglyphs. I don't usually work from photo references but this was an exception. I've made a few versions of this scene and this is my largest painting I've made. It was really fun to work on a larger scale. This painting was juried into the Pastel Society of New Mexico's 30th National Show in Taos, NM in August 2022.
